Interview with Jennifer Rhodes

Our website just made an interview with the wonderful Jennifer Rhodes (Penny Halliwell). Thank you so much for the interview Jennifer! 

-We really loved seeng you as Grams. Do you have favorite episode or memory of Charmed?

 Thank you, I really enjoyed doing Grams.  I've had many interesting roles over the years in film and theatre and I will say that Grams was probably my favorite - perhaps because I  think I was able to bring a lot of my own personality and humor to the part.  And how many opportunities does an actress have to play a dead witch?

I have many wonderful memories of recurring for  eight years on the show -  enjoying working with the girls, Brian, Finola, James,  some terrific directors and of course, the wonderful wardrobe.   I remember once I was supposed to fall down on the floor with Holly and the camera was very close to my face and as I hit the floor, it hurt and I uttered some obscenity under my breath.  Holly said smiling, "Grams, did you say,  " *#!*# "?     I said "No" and the cameraman said, "Oh Yesssss you Did".  So we had to do the shot again!  Also a moment with  Holly when her dog had died and she came to work very sad and I remember putting my arms around her because she was crying.  (I'm a dog lover too).  My favorite episodes were "Necromancing the Stone" (I had a love interest) and the one where I played the Big Bad Wolf - a lot of fun.

-What are some of the challenges filming a show like Charmed?

 I suppose working in front of green screen - used when there are special effects and you have to react to something that isn't really there.  Also, getting to work on an LA freeway is a major challenge.

-Would you like to work with the girls again? (Holly, Shannen, Alyssa, Rose)

 Oh sure - it's always nice to work with good actors again, particularly when it was a good experience to begin with.  It would feel like a family reunion.

-How would you describe Penny Halliwell?

Flamboyant, outspoken, protective, good person, powerful, funny, someone you don't want to mess with - and above all,  loves her family.

- Do you believe in magic?

 Well, Magic is all around us  - Some people see it and some people don't.
